Bernadette is a young lady with many talents. She is an artist, a movie star, a television star, a video star, a violinist, a magician, a model, a public spokes person for Easter Seals and Special Olympics. The Easter Seal Society made Bernadette its 2000 Adult Representative which entailed speaking at many meetings. She participates in Special Olympics and was the 1994 Athlete of the year both locally and for the State of Tennessee.
Although all her life Bernadette has been seen with a pencil and drawing on anything she could get her hands on, it wasnt until 2003 after working for five years in a day care center that she started art lessons. Bernadette started with classes one day a week, but liked it so much that she kept adding classes until she was going four and five days a week. These were not real teaching classes, but just a group of people enjoying painting. Bernadette received so much from all the artists in the classes. After her website was started in August of 2004 and her first art show in September , she officially joined the ranks of being an artist.
Bernadettes first show was a real success. During the last 30 minutes of the show two people walked up and bought two paintings. Excitement quickly flowed through the other artist because Bernadette was the only artist to sell a painting. Since that momentous beginning, Bernadette has exhibited her art in other shows, sometimes selling a painting, but always selling her beautiful accessories which exhibit her art.
Although Bernadette has spoken to many groups, speaking to the South Carolina DS Conference in 2005 was a highlight. At this conference she also exhibited and sold her art work. Bernadette has exhibited her work at the International Mosaic DS Conference and at the Tennessee Disability Mega Conference.
She has also exhibited at the DSMT Conference, the DS Association of the Mid South Buddy Walk in Memphis, TN, the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, and the NDSC Conference. Bernadette is very successful within the disabilities groups and success has extended into all of the world of art.
For several months Bernadette had 18 of her paintings on exhibit at the new Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital. She was part of an exhibit at the Tennessee Art League, the Centennial Art Center, and also at the Tennessee Arts Commission.
Bernadette is always a success at Arts and Crafts Festivals in and around Nashville.
